SIP phones, session initiation protocol, VoIP, and profits in Internet Telephony
Internet telephony has been around for years
but recent rulings enabled VOIP to come of age.
Computer based phones are software with a nice
interface. Session initiation protocol (SIP)
handles the call in a format similar to email, so
you will receive your calls and voicemail (if
equipped) no matter where you are. Therefore
wireless hot spots and Internet coffee bars are
profitable.
You do not need to be in the same location as your free Internet telephone or telephone number. If you are in Great Britain and want a New York telephone number you can do it. If you are in Italy and want a London phone number you can do it. The main point to tell your customers is,
as an example, an import - export business in the UK may have suppliers in India, United arab Emirates, and Malaysia. Using internet telephones all of you register for free telephone service from Stanaphone or Glophone, or a provider of your choice. Any time a supplier calls you, regardless of where they are or where you are, your telephone rings and the call is free. If you miss a call it goes to free voicemail, and you hear the message as an email attachment.
Standard phones plug into your broadband
connection using an interface box. Other SIP
phones plug directly in to your provider using a
CAT5 or 6 cable and RJ45.
To make your business profitable you must
identify the client, the scope of the project,
requirements, network requirements and cost.
VoIP interfaces to cell phones, campus-wide dual application handsets, freeware PBX systems such as Asterisk -- the possibilites are endless and the market is ever changing. What is your niche, and where do you want to go with it? What country are you in and what market do you want to serve? Is there enough profit to meet your business goals if you are a reseller, or should you hire a team of programmers?
We've seen that commercial on television where Internet users put money into the wireless access point machine and the owner collects the money. It looks good, but the owner is really splitting the profits with the equipment and service provider. There is money to be made and profits can be yours if you study and plan. The business boom in the United States is now booming in India and China. Perhaps looking at the past is a good indicator of the future, but internet telephony, VoIP, and WiFi do not have a long history.
