Voice over the Internet requires a telephone. There are three types of phones. Those types are soft phones, hard phones, and a combination of the two. There are no free hard phone telephones.
Before downloading a phone here is what you need to know ( the download links are below. Read this first ):
Addaline and Free World Dialup (FWD) both offer free preconfigured Xten phones. Stanaphone gives you a real phone number that can be called from any telephone including your cell phone.
The FWD network is busy and overloaded at times.
The Addaline network does not let you dial toll free numbers from your free phone.
Pictured here is the free soft phone for Windows from Xten.
It is the most popular, in part because it is available as a pre-configured, easily installed, free package. Stanaphone is also preconfigured and requires no setup.
