VoWiFi - Voice Over WiFi Long Range
VoWiFi is voice over wireless networks but we are not talking about home or hotspot WiFi - we are talking about wireless broadcast coverage to larger areas. A variety of wireless standards are in the works to address the technical limitations of running voice over wireless.
If you are considering VoWiFI as an opportunity for your business you should consider a T-1 line with endpoints as a minimum, the area coverage, and the location of transmission towers. VoWiFi speeds communications and reduces travel costs. In addition to voice, video may soon become the expected norm as personal conferencing support continues to build. It's also easier to sell because cost savings are apparent.
VoWiFi requiring more than one tower or transmission point must have equal signal strength at each antenna, overlapping coverage, security, monitoring, and other considerations. If a T-1 connection is expensive in your area perhaps more towers which ultimately connect to a lower-cost endpoint would be cost effective. In Warsaw Missouri our T-1 line is $1300 a month. Seventy miles away a different provider costs $635 per month. Each tower costs about $600 to install, and more customers generate more revenue. The monthly savings from less expensive T-1 connections can give you more bandwidth and speed if you budgeted for the original $1300 in the original business plan.
If you can service a large company in your coverage area SpectraLink has a WiFi handset which provides immediate on-campus communications and an off-campus interface which includes caller ID, multi-line functions, call transfer, conferencing and voicemail.
